Who is Benzil?
Hi, my name is Ben - aka Benzil. I'm 42 and I'm from the UK. I've been using cannabis for over 27 years, and for a long time it was a daily part of my life. I always looked upon cannabis as my "Green Goddess" - we lived harmoniously together, sharing a wonderful relationship for many happy years.
When the Green Goddess Became a Goblin
However around 2022, due to a combination of factors, the love of my life completely turned on me. What was once my Goddess - dependable, always there to soothe times of strife - suddenly transformed into what I can only describe as a Goblin. Unpredictable, at times terrifying, and leaving me anxious, depressed, fearful and paranoid every time I consumed it. The enjoyment I once felt using cannabis completely vanished overnight. I made the decision to stop for good, a decision that came with all kinds of emotions, as you can hopefully imagine.
I found Cannabis, specifically Type 1 Cannabis (High THC content, little to no CBD content)
extremely difficult to give up compared to Alcohol for example. Which I haven't used for over four years now as I found that relatively simple to give up. The truth being was because I ENJOYED using Cannabis whereas Alcohol I did not. I started to miss my Green Goddess and miss her bigtime. Predictably, relapses followed and sure enough that Green Goblin reared it's ugly head. This wasn't just a one off or phase as I had initially hoped and had secretly thought a much-needed and long overdue tolerance break would sort out. I had to face facts that this occured everytime I consumed Type 1 Cannabis.
Discovering CBD: A Whole New Journey
It was around this time that I became aware of CBD (Type 3) Cannabis. A chemotype of Cannabis that, apparently I could use and not experience any of the "Goblin" or unwanted, detrimental side-effects. Now this all seemed a bit too good to be true so I started doing a lot of research into it and then ultimately embarked on one of the most exciting and fascinating journeys of my Life. It turns out that YES I could use Cannabis again. Not only that but I could ENJOY using Cannabis once again too. Because this time, rather than using Cannabis "recreationally" i.e. to get "stoned". I could now use it for the Plants intended purposes: For therapeutic and personal wellbeing. Would I rekindle my love affair with the Green Goddess? Or would that Green Goblin make yet more unwanted appearances?
The Long Road to Finding the Right Vendor
Initially I found the UK CBD marketplace confusing and daunting. I'll cut a long and painful story short by saying that I tried various UK vendors (five in total), ultimately wasted A LOT of money and in the main was disappointed with the majority of products that I received. I also had serious misgivings as to the origins, veracity and indeed safety of these products that I was buying and consuming particularly the various Hashes that I had tried. True, there were a couple of standouts that I happily reordered but I found that even when I did that the batches varied wildly. Almost too wildly for comfort and overall the buying experience was if anything more unpredictable than the Black Market that I had recently abandoned.
