What it is, how it works, and why the plant has been used for thousands of years.

About CBD

CBD (cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis plant. It is one of over 100 cannabinoids identified in the plant and accounts for up to 40% of the plant's extract. Unlike THC, it is entirely non-psychoactive - it will not get you high.

No. CBD is non-psychoactive. Our products are made from legal industrial hemp and the finished products contain only trace levels of THC, well within UK legal limits and far below anything that could cause an intoxicating effect. You won't get a high from them.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a cell-signalling system first identified in the early 1990s. Researchers believe it helps regulate a range of the body's everyday functions. CBD is one of several compounds being studied for how it interacts with the ECS, in particular the CB1 and CB2 receptors, though the exact mechanisms aren't fully understood and research is ongoing.

Full spectrum contains all naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids - including trace amounts of THC (under 0.2%). Many users report stronger effects due to the 'entourage effect'. Broad spectrum is similar but with THC removed. Isolate is pure CBD - all other compounds removed. We stock both: our CBD oil range comes in full and broad spectrum options, while our flower and hash are naturally full spectrum.

The entourage effect is the theory that cannabinoids and terpenes work together rather than in isolation, with the combination behaving differently from any single compound on its own. It's one reason many people prefer full or broad spectrum products over isolate. The research is still early, and a lot of what's said about it is based on user reports rather than settled science.

Dose, timing, and how to find the right product for you.

Getting started

Start low and go slow. We recommend beginning with a 5–10mg dose and waiting at least an hour before assessing how you feel. CBD oil (drops under the tongue) gives you the most control over dosage. If you tell us a bit about what you're looking for, we'll point you in the right direction - no upsell, no scripts.

There's no universal dose. It varies by individual, body weight and metabolism. As a general guide, the Food Standards Agency advises adults consume no more than 10mg of CBD a day, though plenty of products are dosed above that per serving, so read the label and decide what suits you. A common starting point is a few drops of a low-strength oil in the evening, then adjusting over the following weeks based on how you feel. If you're not sure where to begin, our CBD oil range gives you the most control over dosage. We're not medical professionals, so if you're taking medication or have a health concern, speak to your GP or pharmacist first.

Sublingual (under the tongue) CBD oil typically takes 15–45 minutes. Inhaled CBD (vaping or flower) works fastest - often within minutes. Edibles take longest - up to 2 hours. Effects can last anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the method and individual.

CBD can interact with certain medications, particularly those metabolised by the liver enzyme CYP450 (which includes many common drugs). If you are on prescribed medication, please consult your GP or pharmacist before using CBD. We are not medical professionals and cannot advise on drug interactions.

In its 2017 review, the World Health Organisation found that in its pure form CBD is generally well tolerated and reported a good safety profile. It's worth saying that research into long-term use is still ongoing, and most studies look at pure CBD rather than finished products. CBD is a food supplement, not a medicine, and isn't intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you have any health concerns or take medication, speak with your GP before starting.

QUALITY IS THE ENTIRE ARGUMENT. NOT PRICE. NOT PACKAGING.

Where our products come from and how we ensure they meet the standard.

Products & quality

We source from a small number of established farms in Switzerland, the USA, and southern Europe - regions with the climate, soil, and cultivation standards to produce exceptional hemp. Every supplier is vetted and every batch tested before it reaches you.

Our flower range is organised by strain - Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid - each with distinct terpene profiles that influence the experience. Indica strains tend to be more relaxing, Sativas more uplifting, Hybrids a balance of both. Product pages carry full terpene breakdowns so you can choose based on what you're looking for.

Many of our products come from organic-certified farms, and those that aren't certified still follow organic growing practices, with no pesticides and no synthetic fertilisers. We note the origin and growing conditions on every product page, and each one lists the dominant terpenes, the cannabinoid breakdown, and the genetics and origin. Want the pesticide screening results for a specific batch? Ask us and we'll send the Certificate of Analysis (COA).

Keep all CBD products away from direct sunlight and heat. Flower and hash should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Oil should be kept away from light and heat - a cupboard is fine. Refrigeration is not required but won't do any harm.

EVERY BATCH THIRD PARTY TESTED. EVERY COA ON REQUEST.

The legal picture in the UK and what you need to know about testing.

Drug testing & legality

Our full spectrum products contain trace levels of THC within the legal limit, and our broad spectrum products have THC removed to below detectable levels. Either way, no CBD product can guarantee a negative drug test, and trace THC can build up with regular use. If you're subject to drug testing at work or in sport, check with your employer, a medical professional, or your governing body before using any CBD product.

Yes. CBD is legal in the UK when it comes from an approved industrial hemp strain (grown from plants containing under 0.2% THC) and the finished product stays within UK legal limits for controlled cannabinoids. All Originals CBD products comply. We don't sell THC products.

Within the UK and most of the EU, travelling with CBD products is generally fine. International travel is more complex - THC limits and CBD legality vary significantly by country. We recommend checking the specific regulations of your destination before travelling. When in doubt, leave it at home.

CBD was removed from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited list in 2018. However, THC remains prohibited. As our products contain trace levels of THC, athletes subject to drug testing should consult their governing body before using any CBD product. The risk of a positive test, while low, cannot be entirely ruled out.

How to read a Certificate of Analysis and what our testing covers.

Lab results & safety

Every batch we sell is tested by an accredited third-party laboratory before it reaches you. The Certificate of Analysis (COA) confirms cannabinoid content, THC levels, terpene profile, and screens for pesticides, heavy metals and microbial contaminants. We don't publish the COAs on the site, but we're happy to send the one for your batch on request, just email us at sales@originalscbd.co.uk. On every product page you'll also find the dominant terpenes, the cannabinoid breakdown, and the genetics and origin.

A COA is a document from an independent, accredited laboratory that verifies the content and safety of a CBD product. It tells you exactly what's in the product, including CBD and THC percentages, and confirms the absence of harmful contaminants. Every batch we sell is third-party tested, and the COA for your batch is available on request, just ask.

The key things to look for: the CBD % (does it match what's on the label?), the THC level (is it within UK legal limits for the finished product?), and the contaminant section (pesticides, heavy metals and microbials should all be ND, meaning not detected, or within acceptable limits). The lab performing the test should be ISO 17025 accredited. If you'd like the COA for a batch you've bought from us, drop us a message and we'll send it over.

Yes. Every batch is tested for pesticide residue as part of the standard COA, and we only work with suppliers whose products pass this screening. We don't post the results publicly, but if you'd like the pesticide screening for your batch, email us at sales@originalscbd.co.uk and we'll send the COA.
