Sean didn't stumble into cannabis. He went looking for it.
He was fifteen when his grandad's health started going. The prescribed medications weren't working, or rather, they were working in ways nobody wanted. Stomach problems. Dependency. Side effects piling on top of the original problem. Sean watched all of that and reckoned there had to be something better. He'd heard about cannabis. He read about it, researched it, and then did what any determined fifteen-year-old would do. He grew some. White Rhino, outdoors, entirely for his grandad. Knowing the risks. Doing it anyway, because the prescriptions had run dry on answers and a plant hadn't.
It helped. And that changed everything.
What started as a mission to look after someone he loved turned into a full obsession with the plant itself. Its history, its science, what it could actually do. He pulled apart everything he could find: the pharmacology, the genetics, the culture, the decades of research that prohibition had tried to bury. He spent late nights on the early-2000s grower forums, reading everyone who'd written anything serious down. He tracked down Dutch growers who properly knew their craft and learned from them directly. Then, at nineteen, he went to horticultural college and took an NVQ Level 2. Not just cannabis. Horticulture properly. All things green, the whole living world of plants. He's never lost that.
The problem was he had to do it all in the dark.
For years Sean was producing work he was genuinely proud of and couldn't tell a soul. That's a particular kind of difficult. When the craft matters to you and the world won't let you claim it. He couldn't wear it openly. Couldn't talk about it freely. Had to keep something that felt important to him quietly out of sight while prescribed opioids got handed out without a second thought. The contradiction never sat right with him.
CBD changed that. The more he read into the cannabinoids beyond THC, the breadth of what the plant actually contains, the research that was starting to surface, the more he realised this wasn't a workaround. This was the whole point. The plant has always been more than one compound, and CBD gave him a way to work with it properly. Openly. With his name on it. He grabbed that with both hands.
He wears his Originals hoodie every day. That's not a small thing. For someone who spent years keeping this out of sight, being able to claim it publicly still matters.
The business runs on the same instincts that sent him out to grow White Rhino at fifteen. He spends real time with suppliers and farmers, because he knows what good growing looks like and he can tell pretty quickly when someone genuinely cares about what they're producing and when they don't. That shared language, grower to grower, cuts through everything fast. He's fussy about what goes on the site, because he can't put his name to something he doesn't believe in. And he gets a proper buzz out of hearing that a customer's life is better for it. That's still the whole point.
The next chapter is Originals CBD growing their own CBD flower. Full control from seed to shelf, the way it should be done. It might mean moving abroad to make it happen. He's not put off by that.
I've been with this plant since I was a kid, and what gets me is the craft of it, a seed and a bit of care turning into something real. It frustrates me that something natural still gets looked down on. The plant deserves better than the industry it ended up in, and that's the whole reason I started this.
